Making GS 3 Science and Technology notes

Reading a basic book feels done in a day; finding current affairs, data and examples for every point does not. This video takes Science and Technology in GS 3, worth 40 to 50 marks a year, and splits it into 12 topics. For biotechnology it reads the six PYQs in Learn to Write for their dimensions and examples, saves data and schemes to the GS 3 notebook, and adds current affairs from CA Tracker Pro.

Steps

  1. Open GS 3 and go to Syllabus. Science and Technology is points 14, 15 and 16. Open each and note its major themes, such as medical and health technology. Together they make 12 smaller topics.
  2. Pick a topic, here biotechnology, which has six PYQs. Go from the oldest to the newest and open each one in Learn to Write.
  3. Read the framework to find the dimensions UPSC asks: why biotechnology is growing in India (a policy push, skilled people, market demand) and how it helps farmers (crop productivity, pest and disease resilience).
  4. Back every point with an example from the answer, such as Bt cotton against the bollworm, or ICAR-CIPHET's technology to make fruit and vegetables last longer.
  5. Select the data and schemes you want and save them to GS 3, with a note or a tag. They show up as Learn to Write highlights in My Notes.
  6. Open CA Tracker Pro, choose Science and Technology and the topic Biotechnology, and read the highlighted parts. Mains PYQ shows which PYQs an article links to; Key takeaways give the context and value additions.
  7. Save a highlight to the notebook it suggests, add another such as GS 2, or make a new Prelims notebook for facts like NavIC's satellites.
  8. Short of time? Choose Today and Must Read to see only the day's important articles.
